If
you are a salesperson, in general you prefer working independently versus being
tied to others; you are excited by the prospect of closing a deal; you value
being compensated by the success of your own efforts; and you are driven to
succeed. All these traits are typically what keep you in the sometimes
rough-and-tumble field of sales.
According to solution selling training experts, there is an even more challenging role
ahead if you have the desire and talent for it…the role of sales manager. It is
a role that few fill well. In fact, the average tenure for a typical sales
manager is only 18 months. What makes it so difficult?
Perhaps it is the fact that a sales manager
must build a team from individuals and establish some standards and rules for
those who would rather do it their own way. A sales manager needs to find a way
to motivate the team to pull in the same direction for the good of the team
and, ultimately, for the health of the business. Are you ready for the
challenge?
